Moon Makes Minnesota Radio HOF
• Last year we reported that Larry “Moon” Thompson, co-host of the successful Moon and Staci afternoon drive show for nearly 17 years at Hubbard Radio Hot AC KSTP-FM (KS95)/Minneapolis left the show at the end of the year, putting an exclamation point on a successful 45-year radio career that began in Nebraska and included prior stints in Denver, Las Vegas and Houston. Thompson, who was diagnosed with M.S. in 2005 stepped away from the daily grind of radio to focus on his health.
Now comes the welcome word that Thompson will be inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame at the Pavek Museum in September! “It’s been a great career and I miss doing radio… but I read up on everything each day,” Thompson tells RAMP. “I figured you might want to give me a mention before I fade to black…hahahaha.”
Thompson shared some thoughts with us as he pondered his upcoming honor, saying, “When Staci and I started doing a personality-driven afternoon show people thought that morning drive audiences were the biggest — Wrong! And after doing mornings for 16 years it was great sleeping in until noon. And when we won a Marconi for ‘Large Market Personality of the Year’ I said I didn’t do my first break for Hubbard Radio but I hope I get to do my last — and I did.”
Thompson and four other Minnesota broadcasting icons will be honored on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at the Pavek Museum in St. Louis Park, MN. Tickets will be available for purchase starting April 7. In closing, Thompson cracked, “I’m just glad this isn’t a posthumous award.”
