Texas Radio HOF Inducts 20
• Fans, friends, and inductees of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame (TRHOF) recently gathered at the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore, TX for their annual reunion of Texas radio professionals and Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for 20 deserving Texas broadcasters (in alphabetical order): Jud Ashmore, Jay Britt (posthumous), Raoul Cortez (posthumous), “Big Frank” Edwards, Paul Gleiser, John Granato & Lance Zierlein, Henry Guerra (posthumous), Mat “The Mighty Quinn” Quinn, Dene Hallam (posthumous), Jay Jones, Mary Lanoue, Melanie Miller, Charlie Parker, John Roberts (posthumous), Clifton “King Bee” Smith (posthumous), Gary Stone, Terri Thomas, “Harvey T” Thompson, Jerry Trupiano, and Val Wilson.
Hall of Famer Scott Arthur kicked off the ceremony with the induction of San Antonio legend Jud Ashmore, who had just celebrated his 100th birthday! Hall of Famer Dayna Steele was on hand to welcome Mary McCoy, holder of the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest career as a female radio personality (72 years!), and nine-year old Mary Ella Woodstock, host of KIDZ STAR Radio on DFW’s KNON-NOW.
The weekend’s festivities included a special screening of Runaway Radio, the documentary by Mike McGuffwhich details the rise and fall of Houston’s iconic KLOL, as well as appearances by several special guests. TAB President Oscar Rodriguez provided a legislative update, and THROF Executive Director Josh Holstead touted the organization’s scholarship program. TRHOF Executive Director Doug Harris notes that, for the third consecutive year, the Induction ceremony was sold out, and as a result, the event will once again be held in Kilgore on Nov. 7-8, 2025.
