Radio One Dug In Deep

• Radio One Houston remains firmly committed to being live and local as long as the power allows. “Madd Hatta and the team — JMac, Keisha Nicole, Anthony Valary, Jessica Jeanz, DJ Eric — along with myself have been living at the station since Friday,” OM/PD Terri Thomas tells RAMP. “Rob G was able to escape his neighborhood Monday and has been here as well. We’ve been working around the clock to keep our brands — KBXX (97.9 the Box), KMJQ (Majic 102.1) and KROI (Radio Now 92.1) on the air and our listeners connected and informed.” She added, “There is NO WAY I could keep it going without the sacrifice from my team. I also have some folks working remotely when they have power — DJ Riddler, Leon Provost, Rachel Montoya and Robert Washington. Jerry Palmer, Cindy Brinkman and Jay Rio from our traffic department have also been able to work remotely as well as our engineers. Bill Travis from my production department was evacuated from his home but has been helping from his church shelter.” That’s DJ Eric pictured below, grabbing a quick nap in between shifts.

Thomas continued, “The conditions are as bad as you see on TV. Flooding is a major issue and new areas continue to flood. Rescue efforts are underway. We are thankful for our neighbors in Louisiana and other parts of Texas for volunteering to bring their boats to help rescue. The community has really stepped up and neighbors are helping neighbors as much as possible.” In conclusion, Thomas said, “We’re grateful for the love and support from the radio community. We’ve received many calls inviting Madd Hatta to speak on air with a local perspective. For those that want to help in the meantime donations should be directed to Mayor Sylvester Turner‘s Greater Houston Community Foundation at ghcf.org — those funds will help the people directly here in Houston.”

Radio One SVP of Programming Jay Stevens added, “In times like these we see the continued importance of radio being live and local to service the need of listeners. We are proud of our team and standing guard to support them in any way possible.”
