Relief Efforts Sweep The Nation
• This morning, Beasley Media Group’s Ft. Myers, FL stations WXKB (B103.9), WRXK (96K-Rock) and WJPT (Sunny 106.3), in partnership with the local chapter of the American Red Cross will collectively flush — or at least bend — their formats and kick off a special “Music Thon™ to benefit those impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
Beginning at 6am, B103.9’s Big Mama and the WiLD Bunch, 96KRock’s Zito and Stan & Haney and Sunny 106.3’s Randy Sherwyn and Sheila stay on the air to play your strange, interesting, possibly frightening requests in exchange for donations. “We know firsthand how natural disasters can bring devastation to a community,” said Operations Manager Adam Star. “We are trying to do our part in helping the victims of Hurricane Harvey.” To make a request — and a donation, call 239-495-2100.
• Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s Springfield, IL radio stations are partnering with the local Sinclair Broadcasting TV stations for “Stand Strong For Texas” — a daylong event to raise funds and supplies for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the Gulf Coast region. Tomorrow, September 1, both groups will set up shop at the local Walmart to accept donations. The emphasis will be on monetary donations; when folks make a donation by check only on Friday, payable to the Salvation Army, Sinclair will match that contribution, up to a total of $100,000. Mid-West Family News-Talk WMAY will broadcast live from the Walmart event from 6am to 6:30pm, while sister stations WUSW, WQLZ and WNNS will broadcast updates throughout the day. Sinclair’s NewsChannel 20 will also be on-site all day doing live updates. In partnership with Two Men and a Truck, the campaign will also collect toiletries, first aid and cleaning supplies, diapers, bottled water and other essentials. Clothing will not be accepted. Stock Transport Incorporated will help ship the donations to Texas.
“While we are a locally-owned and locally-focused broadcasting company, we have an obligation to use our reach to help in times of national crisis,” said Harvey Wells, GM of Mid-West Family Broadcasting Springfield. “We are proud to partner with Sinclair, NewsChannel 20 and Fox 55 to make a difference for the victims of this devastating natural disaster. I would like to thank General Manager Rick Lipps and News Director Michael Truitt from Sinclair Television for their assistance in making this happen in such a short period of time.”
