As RAMP has previously chronicled, Nelarusky is an annual benefit for Special Olympics Illinois that also doubles as an Official Lollapalooza Aftershow. Entrepreneur Lauren McClusky has been in charge of Nelarusky for 12 consecutive years. McClusky, the daughter of Chicago-based music industry executive Jeff McClusky, launched the first benefit for Special Olympics Illinois (under its original title, “McFest”) at the age of 17. The first two Nelarusky events featured bands from local Chicago high schools, and has since grown to encompass nationally known bands in partnership with Lollapalooza.
Last year’s Nelarusky bill featured Jon Bellion, MAX and Anthony Pavel and raised over $45,000 for Special Olympics Illinois. Previous Nelarusky performers included Imagine Dragons, Icona Pop, Alabama Shakes, First Aid Kit, Filligar and Cold War Kids, as well as many other local and national acts. In total, Nelarusky has raised over $300,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.
This highly anticipated event, in partnership with the R Entertainment and Oro Valley Parks and Recreation, will feature top Country artists Chris Young, High Valley and Matt Farris on Saturday, October 13 and performances from O.A.R., Switchfoot, A Great Big World, Mat Kearney and MAX on Sunday, October 14.
