Condolences: Michael Hayes
• We lost another good one this weekend — we were saddened today to learn of the passing of longtime radio pro Michael Hayes (Adkins), who died this weekend after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Hayes, who hailed from Tekoa, WA, embarked on his radio career in 1980. It was a journey that took him across America, with programming stops at KMYI/San Diego, KKRZ/Portland, OR and WKST/Pittsburgh, to name a few. His most recent radio gig was a four-year stint as PD of Fort Myers Broadcasting AC WINK/Ft. Myers-Naples, FL until December 2014. In February 2016 Hayes accepted the position of Executive Director with Pacifica Memory Care in Fort Myers, FL, where he worked with people battling Alzheimer’s and dementia.
In an emotional Facebook post, Hayes’ longtime girlfriend Maria Otero said, in part, “To those of you who knew him or had the opportunity or blessing to be his friend, coworker, boss, buddy, or just cross his path, please remember how funny and goofy he was and what an amazing human being he was.”
