Remembering Gilbert Gottfried
• Our thoughts are with our friend Dara Kravitz Gottfried and family after hearing about the passing of her husband, actor/comedian Gilbert Gottfried, who died Tuesday, April 12 at the age of 67. Gottfried’s publicist told the Washington Post that he died due to complications from a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
The news of Gilbert’s passing was shared in a Twitter post that reads, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor. Love, the Gottfried family.”
Like many of us, we knew Dara from when she worked for MCA Records back in the day. She and Gilbert first met at a Grammy Awards party in the late ’90s and were married in 2007. They are the parents of daughter Lily and son Max.
Gottfried was the subject of a terrific 2017 documentary, Gilbert, and co-host of Gilbert Gottfried’s Amazing Colossal Podcast! And if you haven’t seen him steal the show in the amazingly profane (and hilarious) 2005 documentary The Aristocrats, please watch it.
Sadly, Gilbert has become the third comedy giant we have lost this year, after Bob Saget and Louie Anderson.
