Remembering Mike Salois
• Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Mike Salois, APD of iHeartMedia Hot AC WHYN-FM (Mix 93-1) & News-Talk WHYN-AM and noon-3pm personality on Country WRNX (KIX 100.9)/Springfield, MA, who died last Wednesday, Feb. 27 after suffering a heart attack. He was only 47 years old.
A tribute posted on the Kix website, written by SVP of Programming Kevin Johnson, reads, “All of us at KIX 100.9 are saddened by the sudden loss of our friend and family member ‘New Guy’ Mike Salois. Mike cherished his time on the air connecting with the country audience as well as meeting KIX listeners at concerts and station events. He was an integral part behind the scenes at iHeartMedia Springfield, assisting not only with KIX, but Mix 93-1 and NewsRadio 560 WHYN as well. Everyone he encountered was met with a beaming smile and witty remark. Mike’s family… his three girls… were his whole world, followed by his radio family in both Springfield and his native Rhode Island. We were fortunate to know him, if only for a short time. We are all better for it. Of tender heart and generous spirit. Rest easy, Mike.”
Prior to his arrival in Springfield in Dec. 2017, Salois spent three years with iHeartMedia Providence as a morning show producer on Talk WHJJ and on-air talent at Mainstream Rock WHJY and Classic Hits WWBB (B101).
Another beautifully heartfelt tribute to Salois was posted to Facebook by Rob Anthony, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia Providence, who said, in part, “What’s most important to note is how beloved Mike was. He was, without question, the most willing to help and do anything employee I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. In five years Mike rose from being a board op to a morning show producer, to an APD/on-air gig in Springfield. All that time he was a friend. A good man that always put the thoughts of others over his own. Like many, the past dealt big challenges, and while I like to think of myself as strong, I know I would have never dealt with these things as he did. He just buckled down, did what he had to do and did it with a smile because his world was about his daughters. He loved those girls more than anything. In fact, it was the first thing anyone could say once the shock dissipated after being informed of his passing. Our focus should be on them now. We’re here for whatever they need.”
Visiting hours will be held this Thursday, March 7 from 4-7pm at the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St, Woonsocket, RI. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Tribute Program, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
Salois’ Facebook page is absolutely overflowing with memories and condolences from his many friends and colleagues whose lives he had touched.
