The Bearman Signs Off
• We were saddened to hear of the passing of Kevin “The Bearman” Schutts, half of the popular Bearman and Keith morning show with Keith Moyer on iHeartMedia Mainstream Rock WZZO (95.1 ZZO)/Allentown, PA, who died over the weekend at the age of 64.
A posting on the WZZO Facebook page reads, “Friends, there is no easy way to share this news. Our 95.1 ZZO family has lost its most distinctive voice. With great sadness, we must inform you of The Bearman’s sudden and unexpected passing. He was a wonderful family man and great partner with his friend and teammate Keith. There will be opportunities to share your favorite memories in the coming days. At this difficult time, we ask that your thoughts are with Bearman’s family and friends.”
According to The Morning Call and other sources, Bearman began — and ended — his 47-year radio career at WZZO over three tours of duty. He got his start as a part-timer at WZZO (then WGPA-FM) in 1972. He was upped to fulltime five years later and remained until 1980, when he left for an opportunity at WGRQ/Buffalo, NY. After subsequent stops in Atlanta, Indianapolis and Miami, Bearman returned to WZZO, teamed with Moyer from 1988-1990 before he was lured away to scenic Buffalo again, this time to WUFX, formerly 103.3 The Fox, now WEDG (103.3 The Edge). Bearman came home to WZZO to stay in 1992.
WZZO has established a gallery on its website for listeners, friends and family to upload photos of the Bearman throughout the years, along with their memories and condolences. To leave voicemail condolences, please call 610-841-7252.
