Missouri Radio Talent Institute Begins Today
The Missouri Broadcasters Association (MBA), with the additional support of seven broadcast groups presents the very first Radio Talent Institute in the Midwest — the MBA Radio Talent Institute convenes today on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University, making it possible for students from nine different universities in the state and region to begin ten intense days of total immersion in radio broadcasting taught by over 30 radio pros, including John Beck Sr., VP/GM of Emmis, St. Louis; Matt Saunders, Market President of iHeartMedia, Springfield, Joel McCrea, Market President, iHeartMedia, Des Moines; Gary Exline, GM of Eagle Communications, St. Joseph; Scott Meier, GM of Mid-West Family Broadcasting, Springfield; Mike Rowen, GSM of Hubbard Radio, St. Louis, and speakers from Entercom, Steel City Media, Bott Radio Network and more. Part of their curriculum includes certification as Radio Marketing Professionals by RAB.
John Zimmer, President of Zimmer Radio and Marketing Group, opens the Institute today with his address, “Now Is The Time to Start Thinking Like a Pro.” Bud Walters, President of Cromwell Broadcasting, will present the final session 10 days from now. Other highlights: students will travel to the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph for sessions on sports broadcasting from Chiefs play-by-play announcer Mitch Holthus and will also visit with Royals’ play-by-play pro Denny Matthews. The Taylor and Brady Morning Show from KZPT (99.7 The Point)/Kansas City will broadcast live from the Institute on Friday morning.
Mark Gordon, President of the Missouri Broadcasters Association, stated, “We are pleased to bring this program, taught by industry professionals, to Missouri, which will help fill job openings at broadcast stations with quality employees who have a true understanding of how fun and rewarding a career in our industry can be.” The MBA Radio Talent Institute is the final of seven Radio Talent Institutes this summer, serving over 150 students.
