Dinner & Movies With David Dye
Last November it was announced that, after 25 years of hosting NPR’s popular World Cafe on flagship WXPN/Philadelphia, David Dye would be stepping down from his fulltime role after March 31. Dye will remain as a part-time contributor and WXPN on-air host. Now, as that end date draws ever closer, WXPN announced a special double 25th anniversary celebration of both World Cafe and the Philadelphia Film Festival — WXPN and the Philadelphia Film Society are teaming up to present The XPN Music Film Festival, which runs from Friday, March 31 through Sunday, April 2 at Philadelphia’s Prince Theater. This special weekend will celebrate the many contributions of David Dye (who will host the event) while screening some of best-loved music films of the past 40 years, enhanced by several special events.
On Friday, March 31, it’s Jonathan Demme‘s excellent Talking Heads documentary, Stop Making Sense. On Saturday, April 1, enjoy a terrific Cameron Crowe double feature — 1992’s Gen-X drama Singles, followed by his 2000 coming-of-age masterpiece, Almost Famous. The action continues on Sunday, April 2 with the Stephen Frears‘ High Fidelity, starring John Cusack and a hilarious Jack Black, and Martin Scorsese‘s awesome documentary of The Band’s final concert, The Last Waltz.
As a special bonus, WXPN is also issuing this awesome collectors-edition David Dye t-shirt and a Live at the World Cafe 25th anniversary double-CD, featuring David’s picks for “Best World Cafe performances,” to new and renewing WXPN members during its current Spring fund drive, which runs through Thursday, Feb. 16. at xpn.org. You are also urged to stay tuned for information about several special World Cafe 25th Anniversary concerts!
