Gentry To Run Cumulus Birmingham
• Cumulus Media has appointed 30+-year radio exec Bill Gentry as VP/Market Manager for its Birmingham, AL group — Urban AC WUHT (Hot 107.7), Talk simulcast WAPI/WZRR (Talk 99.5), and Sports-Talk trio WJOX (94.5 Jox FM), WJQX (100.5 Jox 2) and WJOX-AM (690 Jox 3). Gentry (left) segues from Alpha Media Louisville, KY, where he has served as SVP/Market Manager since August 2016.
Mark Sullivan, RVP, Operations, Cumulus Media, said of Gentry, “I’m really excited and pleased to have Bill joining our team in Birmingham. We’re fortunate to be bringing someone of his caliber and experience to the company. I’m looking forward to our continued success in Birmingham.”
Prior to joining Alpha Media, Gentry served as Regional Market President for iHeartMedia, managing stations in Louisville, Lexington and Somerset, KY and Nashville. Earlier in his career Gentry was SVP for Clear Channel, overseeing radio operations in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Western Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, IN, and Memphis. Gentry had been with the company since 1999, shortly after the Clear Channel/Jacor merger.
Commenting on his new opportunity, Gentry said, “I’m thrilled to join the Cumulus team in Birmingham and grateful to Mary [Berner] and the leadership team for this opportunity. I’m particularly excited to be starting just as college football is kicking off in the heart of the SEC, as we are the sports authority in the market. Given my experience within News/Talk and recent time working within the Urban arena, I can’t wait to get started! And I hope the staff won’t mind if I hang a UK jersey in my office. Looking forward to this new adventure. This is going to be fun!”
