Guthrie Named CEO Of New Cox Media Group
• RAMP has confirmed earlier media reports that Cox Media Group President Kim Guthrie will assume the title of Chief Executive Officer of the new Cox Media Group.
As we reported in late June, CMG’s parent company Cox Enterprises, Inc. is spinning off Cox Media Group’s 60+ radio station group, along with its CoxReps and Gamut national advertising businesses to a new broadcasting company that will be substantially owned by private equity funds managed by affiliates of Apollo Global Management, LLC, which in February purchased CMG’s television group and the company’s radio, newspaper and television properties in Ohio. Cox Enterprises will maintain a minority stake in this new company, which will maintain the Cox Media Group name and remain based in Atlanta.
The company released a statement that read, “CMG President Kim Guthrie has been named Chief Executive Officer of the new Cox Media Group, assuming her new role once the regulatory review process has been completed and the transaction with Apollo officially closes. Kim has deep roots at CMG. With a background in journalism, she began her more than 21-year career with Cox in 1998 as VP/General Manager for its Long Island, NY radio stations. While at Cox, she served as RVP, GVP, SVP and eventually EVP over the CMG Radio portfolio of 89 stations. Kim played a key role in the formation of Cox Media Group more than a decade ago when she was one of the first Group Vice Presidents, overseeing a group of radio and television markets. Prior to being named President in 2016, Kim was President of CoxReps and EVP of the National Ad Platform business, which includes Gamut and Videa.”
