Guy Gordon Exits WJR/Detroit
• Guy Gordon, a fixture on Detroit television and radio for the past four decades, has been let go from his morning spot at Cumulus News-Talk 760 WJR-AM/Detroit. According to the Detroit Free Press, Gordon said he was asked to take a 60% pay cut and switch to the 2-4pm shift. “I was told it was a purely financial decision,” he said.
Gordon is an Emmy-winning Detroit television reporter, anchor, and talk show host, best known as a news anchor for WDIV Local 4 News in Detroit for nine years, following 13 years as anchor of Channel 7 Action News. He made the transition to radio in January 2017, joining WJR as host of his own show, weekdays from 3-5pm. In November 2023 WJR reconfigured its morning and afternoon shifts, launching ‘JR Morning with Guy, Lloyd, and Jamie from 6-9am, hosted by Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds. Gordon bid farewell to his audience yesterday in an eight-minute appearance at the end of the show, calling WJR “the finest radio station in America,” and explaining that with his heart and treasured teammates on the morning show, “I didn’t think that maybe I would do my best work in another role.”
“If this is the end of the career, I have no grievances,” Gordon said. “I’m Lou Gehrig without the horrible disease. I’m the luckiest man on Earth.”
