Happy 20th, HeadCount!
• On Tuesday, February 13, HeadCount celebrates 20 years of impact with a year of volunteer and partner appreciation. At the intersection of music, culture, and democracy, HeadCount reaches young voters as they enter civic life, consistently turning out voters at a higher rate than national averages through cultural connections with non-partisan “Get Out the Vote” messaging.
Co-founded in 2004 by Andy Bernstein and Marc Brownstein, HeadCount has registered over one million voters through work with musicians like Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews Band, JAY-Z, and Dead & Company, and major brands like Spotify, Ben & Jerry’s and GrubHub. HeadCount will re-up its legacy of grassroots initiatives with a celebration of music and community in one of the biggest years yet for youth engagement in democracy.
For HeadCount’s 20th Anniversary, the non-partisan, non-profit organization, now under the stewardship of new Executive Director Lucille Wenegieme, is going “bigger, badder, better” by partnering with civic organizations across the country to set a new record for youth voter registration and turnout.
“We believe every person should have an equal voice in elections regardless of your race, identity, income, or political ideology,” says Wenegieme (left). “We use the power of music and popular culture to register voters and promote participation in democracy. We reach young people where they already are to inform and empower.” To learn more about HeadCount, please visit headcount.org.
