NordVPN Responds To FTC’s Action

• In response to the FTC’s legal action against Ticketmaster and Live Nation, Marijus Briedis, Chief Technology Officer at leading cybersecurity firm NordVPN, said, “The case put forward against Live Nation highlights a deeper issue in digital marketplaces: when platforms with dominant market share fail to enforce their own rules, it’s consumers who end up paying the price. Transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining trust. That erosion of trust creates space for something even more dangerous: the rise of fake ticket-selling sites. Criminal actors seize on consumer frustration, offering ‘too good to be true’ deals that can leave fans not only without tickets but also victims of fraud or identity theft.”

Briedis continued, “Spotting those fraudulent sellers requires vigilance. Consumers should always check whether a vendor is authorized, look for clear refund policies, verify site security (HTTPS, certificates), and avoid payment methods like wire transfers that provide no protection. Another red flag is the domain itself. Scammers frequently spin up lookalike websites with minor misspellings of well-known brands. A quick check of the URL, or a search for reviews and complaints, can prevent a costly mistake.”

He added, “Platforms themselves cannot be passive in this fight. They have a duty to enforce purchase limits, shut down bad-actor accounts, and invest in monitoring technologies that detect suspicious buying patterns before consumers are harmed. Equally, regulators have a role to play. The FTC’s intervention signals that oversight is catching up with how digital marketplaces work, and that manipulation or collusion will be met with consequences. Strong enforcement sets a precedent across the industry. In the long run, tighter standards and better consumer protections can restore trust. That means fans get fairer access to tickets, brokers face real scrutiny, and fake sites have less room to operate — a win for both consumer rights and the safety of fans.”
