Remembering Scott Ginsburg

Scott Kippel Ginsburg, best known as the co-founder of Evergreen Media and Chancellor Media Corporation, and a successful executive in the automotive and digital media industries, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of May 26 at the age of 71.

As the Dallas Morning News reports, Ginsburg’s career began in the U.S. Congress in the early ’70s, where he worked Iowa Congressmen John C. Culver and U.S. Senator Dick Clark, and later as Staff Director and General Counsel of the U.S. Senate Labor’s Subcommittee on Employment, Poverty, and Migratory Labor.

In 1981, Ginsburg transitioned into the radio broadcasting sector, and two years later he had acquired his first radio station and founded Statewide Broadcasting, which rapidly expanded to major markets including Dallas and Chicago. In 1987, he co-founded H & G Communications, and the following year established Evergreen Media Corporation, taking it public in 1993. In 1997, Ginsburg and Tom Hicks co-founded Chancellor Media Corporation, elevating it to the top billing radio group in the United States by 1998.

That same year Ginsburg launched Boardwalk Auto Group in Plano, TX, expanding it to include several prestigious car brands. Boardwalk Auto Group continues today in Texas and California.

Ginsburg’s business ventures also extended into digital media with the creation of DG FastChannel in 2006, which was a key provider of digital media services and achieved significant industry rankings.

Ginsburg held a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. He was deeply involved in charitable activities, supporting numerous organizations focused on health, education, and the environment. Notably, the Scott K. Ginsburg Sport & Fitness Center at Georgetown University Law Center was dedicated in 2015, and in 2019, his donation facilitated the expansion of the campus.

Scott Ginsburg is survived by his children, Drew Ginsburg, Laura Ginsburg Pierson and husband Lloyd Pierson, William Ginsburg and Jonny Ginsburg. He is also survived by two grandchildren, his mother, Betty Ginsburg, and sister Ricki Robinson and her husband, Joel Robinson.
