Major Morning Milestones
• Legendary Baltimore morning radio personality Laurie DeYoung reached a remarkable career milestone on Tuesday — she celebrated her 35th anniversary as the host of The Laurie DeYoung Show on iHeartMedia Country 93.1 WPOC/Baltimore. DeYoung has been a staple of the Baltimore radio landscape since she first cracked the mic on WPOC in 1985.
Over the course of her more than three decades of service DeYoung has interviewed many Country music icons over the years, including Dolly Parton, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and countless others, while maintaining an unmatchable relationship with her local listeners, Country music industry tastemakers and recording artists.
DeYoung has also been nominated for multiple radio industry awards over the years — she was named CMA Large Market Personality of 1994, CMA Major Market Personality in 2014 and she was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 2010.
• Quickly catching up to that amazing record is Rick Rumble, morning icon on Saga Active Rock WNOR (FM99)/Norfolk, VA, who just inked a sweet five-year contract extension. As we reported earlier this month, Rumble just celebrated his 25-year anniversary as host of Rumble in the Morning, so if we did our rough math correctly, his new deal will take him to 2025 — that mythical 30-year mark on FM99!
President/GM Wayne Leland said, “Rick is one of the most talented and hardest working guys I’ve had the pleasure to know. He can shift gears from comedy to serious topics effortlessly. I’m a huge fan of the show and I’m looking forward to another five years with Rick.” OM Mike Beck commented, “Rick is the standard that every talent should strive to match. So happy he’s signed up for another five years!”
Mr. Rumble himself remarked, “Excited to spend the next five years working with the best team in broadcasting. Hopefully I won’t need this mask the whole time…”
