Remembering Tulsa’s Brent Douglas

• We’ve lost another legend — Brent Douglas, who, alongside his late partner Phil Stone ruled the Tulsa morning airwaves on iHeartMedia Active Rock 97.5 KMOD/Tulsa, OK for three decades, has passed away. As half of the Phil & Brent Morning Zoo, Douglas was the creator of his popular character “Roy D. Mercer.”

Sadly, the duo’s lengthy run on KMOD ended on Sept. 28, 2012, when, after failing to come to terms on a new deal, Phil & Brent did their final show. As covered by RAMP on Oct. 1, 2012, then OM Don Cristi commented, “Saying goodbye to the longest-tenured Morning Show on KMOD — the longest-tenured radio station in the Clear Channel family doesn’t come easy… Phil Stone was the driving force of morning radio in Tulsa for over 30 years with Brent Douglas by his side as the comedic genius for the past 26 and-a-half years. Dominant in ratings, dozens of industry awards & achievements and creators of the legendary Roy D Mercer character, Phil & Brent are simply the most iconic morning show in Tulsa history.” Tragically, Phil Stone died on Nov. 21, 2012.

KMOD marked Douglas’ Saturday death in a Facebook post that reads, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Brent Douglas, Roy D. Mercer, who is one of the patriarchs of KMOD. Brent’s impact continues to be felt every day, not just on KMOD, but on any social media platform. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to have Brent in their lives… Rock In Peace, Brent.”

FOX 23/Tulsa has more details about Douglas’ career. [Special thanks to Don Cristi]
