Bakersfield Forecast: Sunny
• iHeartMedia used the beginning of the Labor Day weekend to launch a new AC station in sunny Bakersfield, CA — KBPF drops its Spanish language “La Preciosa” format and becomes Sunny 105.3 FM, playing “an upbeat variety of hits from the 80’s through today.” You know the drill. The flip returns the AC format to 105.3, where it resided from 2001-2004.
“We are very excited to launch the new Sunny 105.3 in Bakersfield,” said Jeremy Price, Market President for iHeartMedia Bakersfield. This is an exciting move that underscores iHeartMedia’s commitment to offer listeners in Bakersfield a top-rated content and music experience! The people of Kern County are looking for a radio station that can take them through their workday, and we know Sunny 105.3 will deliver.”
Not to be outdone in the snappy quote department, Steve Weed, SVP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s Central California Region, said, “A new day has dawned for Bakersfield radio with the rise of Sunny 105.3. It’s a brand new kind of station for Bakersfield, with a unique playlist of songs all curated to help listeners feel good.”
Weed tells RAMP that he will be working with the local Bakersfield team on Sunny’s programming for now, and a staff will be announced shortly. Watch this space!
