Geronimo’s BIG Move Back To DC
• iHeartMedia Classic Rock WBIG (BIG 100)/Washington, DC has filled its morning show opening with a very familiar name — market legend Don Geronimo will helm the cleverly named Don Geronimo Show weekday mornings from 5:30-10am, starting Sept. 23.
The new show marks a new DC beginning for Geronimo, a 40-year radio pro who started his career at WROK-AM/Rockford, IL, and, alongside his former partner Mike O’Meara, famously hosted the Don and Mike Show on WJFK-FM/Washington from 1991 to 2008, and was syndicated in more than 50 markets. Geronimo also hosted for the Washington Football Team Pre-Game show on WJFK-FM and The Washington Football Network from 1995 to 2001. Geronimo also worked at other DC stations, including WAVA-FM in 1986 and WPGC in 1980. For the past decade he’s been living in Sacramento, CA, originally doing mornings on iHeartMedia’s KHTK-AM and hosting a podcast from 2014-19.
“This fall, we usher in a new era on BIG 100 with the return of a DC legend,” said Dustin Matthews, Director of Rock Programming for iHeartMedia DC. “The reality of having Don home to wake up Washington’s Classic Rock fans is incredible and just the beginning.” Geronimo exclaimed, “I’m thrilled to wake up with Washington D.C. on the iconic BIG 100. I can’t wait to return to my hometown to host a morning show that engages our D.C. listeners, allowing them to participate in live show content and games while hearing the best Classic Rock.”
Geronimo succeeds former WBIG morning host Big Rig (may not be his actual name), who recently moved to afternoons when Bodhi transferred to iHeartMedia San Diego.
