Miller Marks 50 Years Of Rocking
• We would be remiss if we didn’t stop down for a moment to salute legendary New York air personality Carol Miller, evening enchantress on iHeartMedia Classic Rock WAXQ (Q104.3)/New York, who began her commercial broadcasting career 50 years ago tomorrow! Yes, it was Saturday, Dec. 11, 1971 when Miller joined WMMR/Philadelphia while still a student at the University of Pennsylvania.
By 1973 she had risen to Music Director of WMMR and added weekends at WNEW-FM/New York — and she’s been on the air in NYC ever since. In 1974 Miller joined the short-lived 104.3 WQIV (now WAXQ) before crossing to WPLJ the following year. During her tenure at WPLJ (while going to law school during the day) we are told it was the most-listened-to FM station in the United States. She a graduate of UPenn and went on to earn her law degree at Hofstra University.
Miller later rejoined WNEW, where she stayed for the next 17 years — until WNEW flipped to Talk, and she was shifted by then owner CBS Radio over to sister WXRK (92.3 K-Rock). She joined Q104.3 in 2004, and the rest, as they say, is rock and roll.
In her not-so-spare time Miller can also heard on SiriusXM and hosts the syndicated Carol Miller’s Get the Led Out for USRN. Her memoir, Up All Night, was published by Harper-Collins in 2012. Here’s to another half-century of rock!
