Remembering Atlanta’s ‘Cadillac Jack’

• We were saddened to learn that former longtime Atlanta radio personality William “Cadillac Jack” Choate, who spent more than 25 years with Cumulus Country WKHX/Atlanta, died earlier this week.

That sad development was shared in a Facebook post by his ex-wife, Donna, who noted that Cadillac passed away “after a long and difficult struggle with mental health and addiction.” The post continued: “He battled demons we couldn’t always understand, and while things weren’t how any of us wished they could be, I know there was love somewhere beneath the pain. I hope and pray he has found the peace he was searching for all this time.”

Cadillac started doing nights at WKHX (formerly Kicks 101.5) in 1999 at the age of 20, and, with the exception of a few years with sister Y106.7 in the late ’90s, he had spent virtually his entire career with Kicks, notably doing afternoon drive for many years until his elevation to mornings in 2006, where he had been paired with a variety of co-hosts, including Kristen Gates, Dallas McCade, C.J. Lusk, Ali Mac, and most recently, Corey Dylan.

Cadillac abruptly exited the station in July 2019 and ended up filing suit against the company twice, alleging discrimination and breach of contract. We understand the two parties had settled their affairs last August. Cadillac had most recently anchored afternoons, mornings… and afternoons again — on Country WEKS (92.5 The Bear)/Fayetteville, GA, until a year ago.

In addition to his ex-wife Donna, Cadillac leaves behind a son and two daughters. Friends and former colleagues are sharing their condolences on Cadillac’s Facebook page.
