Remembering Connie Kellie
• We were saddened to learn that Connie Kellie, host of the Connie & Fish morning show on Townsquare Media Hot AC WLHT (Mix 95-7)/Grand Rapids, MI passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 after a short battle with liver cancer.
During her 20-plus-year radio career, Connie worked in Mt. Pleasant & Lansing, MI and Jackson, MS, and paired with Fish worked in Omaha, Madison and Milwaukee before finding her way back to Michigan, joining Mix 95-7 team in 2012, where she was the driving force behind such causes as Connie & Fish’s Christmas Kids and the station’s efforts to support the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk. Her audience will always remember her for her infectious laugh. Connie was honored in 2019 with a Gracie Award by the Alliance of Women In Media for her broadcasting excellence.
Connie’s long-time on-air partner, Fish Calloway said, “Over 25 years ago, this incredible, smart and strong woman allowed me the opportunity to be a part of her radio career. Our journey will not only be with those who were touched by her immense talent, but engraved in my heart. Thank you, Connie, for this adventure. I look forward to the day we meet again.”
Townsquare CEO Bill Wilson said, “We are devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague, Connie Kellie. She made a huge impact on her community, her station, and our company. We will miss her very much, and are forever grateful for the time we had together.” Townsquare SVP of Programming Kurt Johnson remarked, “Connie was a rare talent who not only became a wildly popular radio host, she actually changed the business. She pioneered the way for countless women in radio and inspired her listeners by being bold, unapologetic and uncompromising in creating content. But more than that, Connie was one of the most joyful people I’ve known. She lived life loudly on her terms, and did good every day for everyone around her. She made the world better.”
Connie is survived by her husband, Dan, and her longtime on-air partner Fish Calloway. Mix 95-7 has posted a tribute to Connie, and on-air remembrances will air throughout the week. It was Connie’s desire that any memorial contributions be made to the Make-A-Wish foundation.
