Hay Jay Returns With New Heart

• Cumulus News-Talk 820 WBAP/Dallas-Fort Worth shared some welcome news — morning host Hal Jay, a fixture at WBAP for the past 42 years, is returning to the DFW airwaves on Monday, April 3 — almost two months after receiving a heart transplant.

As we previously reported, Jay had gone M.I.A. from the WBAP Morning News after the holidays, and on Jan. 16, he explained why — after suffering two ventricular tachycardia events within a week of each other, doctors at Baylor Scott & White Hospital had told him, point-blank: “Your heart is done.”

Jay was placed on the transplant list and told his expected wait would be 2-6 months for a new heart. Fortunately, it didn’t take that long. On February 3, Jay received a call informing him a heart had become available and he would be going into surgery that night. His transplant surgery started at 1am on Feb. 4, and by 5am he was back in his hospital room. Nine days later, Hal’s wife Ann drove him home to Fort Worth.

On March 29, WBAP listeners once again heard Hal Jay’s voice in promos declaring, “I’m coming back!,” as he shared the news of his April 3 return date.
