Boston Forecast: High On The ’80s
• A couple of former longtime veterans of WXKS (Kiss 108)/Boston — David Corey and Tad Bonvie — will be fishing their parachute pants out of storage and reliving their formative years Wednesday evening by throwing what amounts to a huge Boston radio reunion — an ’80s-themed party, aptly dubbed “Let The Music Play” will feature performances from ’80s icons Alisha, Exposé and Shannon — three of the biggest dance acts from the guys’ collective wonder years at Kiss 108 and while DJ’ing at clubs on Boston’s famed Lansdowne Street.
So far, the guest list is approaching 600 and promises appearances from a bunch of former and current Kiss 108 folks, like JJ Wright, Lady D — The Real Diana Steele, Ed McMann, Karen Blake, Billy Costa and Lisa Donovan, along with other special guests like Mike Mullaney from WWBX (Mix 104.1) and many others. The party is being held at a brand new venue attached to Boston Garden called “Big Night Live,” where one of the owners is yet another former Kiss 108 staff member — Randy Greenstein, a former stunt boy on the Matty in The Morning Show in the late ’90s.
For this special occasion, Corey, now Beasley Country Brand Manager & PD of crosstown WKLB (Country 102.5) will be temporarily resurrecting the famous “Kid David” moniker he used during his 22-year run at Kiss 108. “I haven’t used ‘Kid David’ in 15 years and haven’t DJ’d in about that long,” Corey explains. Bonvie, who was Kiss 108’s MD in the mid-’90s, told RAMP, “It’s a great time to honor people and memories from the past and to reminisce with friends about a once-in-a-lifetime radio station at a time when every song inspired passion.”
Corey added, “It’s going to be a blast to relive the ’80s again, even if it’s just for one night. And seeing a bunch of old radio friends is the icing on the cake. A lot of those in attendance will be people that helped me get into the business back in the day.” We understand some tickets are still available at ticketmaster.com.
