Remembering Bob Stuart
Stuart’s lengthy radio career also included stints at WROR/Boston under PD Gary Berkowitz, who later hired him at WHYT/Detroit. “Bob was a great guy. Kind of a radio journeyman. Very easy going,” Berkowitz said. “Easy to work with and he adapted into many formats. I first met Bob when I became PD at WROR in 1979. He did fill in and part-time for us. When I got to Detroit in ’84, Bob was either on air or just left WOMC. I picked him up for fill-in, which later led to middays on WHYT.”
[Ed. note: I had the privilege of meeting Bob in the late ’70s when I was interning at the late 1150 WACQ/Boston (‘A Broadcast Service of Plough, Incorporated’). Jack Diamond, who was doing mornings, helped me get my foot in the door, and he and Bob were nice enough to let me sit in on their shows and observe while we chatted about radio… and life. It was an unforgettable educational — and personal — experience]
There is a nice tribute to Bob — in his own words — posted on The River’s homepage.
Stuart is survived by his son, Adam Silverman, granddaughters Chloe and Celine, and brother Stuart Silverman and his wife, Patricia.
A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, August 19 at 11:45am at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
