Morrell Comes Home To The River
• Northeast Broadcasting Triple A WXRV (92.5 The River)/Boston announced a changing of the guard, as it were, in morning drive, as longtime morning personality Dana Marshall announced her retirement from the dawn patrol last Friday after a 20-year run with the station. Marshall will, however, continue to host her popular Brunch By The River show, Sundays from 9am-noon.
Stepping in as The River’s new morning host is a very familiar voice — Carolyn Morrell, who spent nearly a decade in middays on The River until she was furloughed last year at the height of the pandemic, now makes her most welcome return. Commenting on Morrell’s radio homecoming, River GM Donald St. Sauveur said, “Carolyn is such a polished and engaging professional. Her love for the playlist, and passion for trivia, theatre, and the arts will be an entertaining and informative start to the day for listeners. We’re so delighted to share her return with our audience. They’ve missed her, and she’ll get a heartfelt welcome back.”
Morrell is a Boston-area native who landed her first radio gig at the late WFNX in the late ’80s. Following a stint with KKSF/San Francisco in the early ’90s, Morrell and her husband returned to Boston to start a family. She worked across the street at WBOS for eight years before joining The River in 2011.
“I’m thrilled to be back at the River!” Morrell exclaimed. “I feel like I’m home again. I’m happy for Dana and this new stage in her life. It’s a joy to work at a station that’s so creative and truly independent. We’ve got heart. We’ve also got wonderful, loyal listeners!”
