• We join the rest of the industry in sending our best wishes to New York radio favorite Angie Martinez, longtime afternoon drive personality on iHeartMedia Urban WWPR (Power 105.1)/New York, who will be sidelined for an unknown period of time after sustaining serious injuries in a recent car accident.

Martinez shared the news of her accident in a Nov. 4 Twitter post, saying, “I’ve always believed in angels, and mine was with me the other morning. I was in a severe car accident and sustained a fractured lumbar and shattered vertebrae. I’m recovering and will be for some time, but I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to do that. Wanted you all to hear it from me first, and know that although this is a difficult time, I am in the best spirits possible and determined to be back and better than ever soon.” God bless, and I deeply appreciate all love and prayers.”

We understand that during Angie’s absence, her show will be covered by other on-air talent and guest hosts.

As Variety reports, the timing of Martinez’ accident is unfortunate, as it comes just weeks after her new TV series, Untold Stories of Hip-Hop, premiered on WeTV.
