Motor City Mornings In A Blender
• Radio One Detroit is making a whole bunch of morning show changes across the cluster — the action begins with Reach Media-syndicated star Tom Joyner, who moves from R&B Oldies Soul 99.9 (W260CB) over to Urban AC WDMK (105.9 Kiss FM), effective Monday, April 23. It’s a familiar perch for Joyner, who previously reigned in mornings on WDMK from 2005-2014.
Concurrent with Joyner’s return, WDMK’s existing Mason & Coco In The Morning show has been dismantled — market fixture John Mason will move to noon-3pm while his co-host Coco exits. The syndicated DL Hughley Show rolls from 3-7pm. Current WDMK midday talent Fantasy Blu will now do a shortened 10am-noon show. Other former Mason & Coco cast members remain with the station: Angie Star will now serve as local anchor for The Tom Joyner Morning Show, while Tune-Up will continue to do his 4-7pm Saturday shift.
Over on Urban sister WGPR (Hot 107.5), more changes are afoot, as The Morning Heat crew has also been disbanded — host Big Greg will fly solo for now, as his co-hosts Deelishis and J-Will exit. No word yet on a new morning show solution at Soul 99.9.
