Jane Matenaer Exits WTMJ/Milwaukee

Jane Matenaer, who has been a daily fixture on Milwaukee morning radio for the better part of four decades, has exited her morning news post at Good Karma Brands’ News-Talk 620 WTMJ-AM after a seven-year run. Her last shift was Friday, July 8. Matenaer told the Milwaukee Business Journal that she’s not planning to retire.

Matenaer discussed her departure on the air Friday during her final appearance on Wisconsin’s Morning Newswith Vince Vitrano. She expressed her gratitude for the station’s news staff, including their generosity. “It’s been a wonderful, wonderful experience,” Matenaer told the Business Journal.

Matenaer has been on the air in Milwaukee since 1984. She most notably spent nearly 25 years co-hosting mornings on Audacy Hot AC WMYX (99.1 The Mix) until May 2009, followed by a five-year run as co-host of Jane and CV on former Milwaukee Radio Alliance AC WLDB (B93.3) until April 2015. A month later, Matenaer joined then-Scripps-owned WTMJ as the fill-in co-anchor on Wisconsin’s Morning News with Gene Mueller, and was upped to permanent co-host in Dec. 2015, where she remained until Mueller’s retirement in Feb. 2022. Since the arrival of new WTMJ morning host Vince Vatrano, Matenaer has been doing fill-in and anchoring morning newscasts.

Good Karma Brands VP/Market Manager Steve Wexler told the Business Journal that Matenaer “let us know that she felt it was time to move on,” adding, “She has been an important contributor to WTMJ for seven years and a welcome voice in Milwaukee radio for over 40 years. We are so appreciative of her work, including reporting, anchoring, and hosting.”

For her part, Matenaer says she is “looking at some options” and plans to stay within the media industry, as she explained, “I’m so not qualified for so many things that I will say I’m looking forward to continuing in media in a fashion.”
