Mary Walter Exits WMAL/DC
• RAMP has learned that Mary Walter has resigned as co-host of Mornings On The Mall on Cumulus Talk WMAL/Washington after a four-year run. Walter, who had been doing the show remotely from her home in New Jersey, explained via social media that management wanted talent back in the building in suburban Maryland, which would require a lengthy commute back to the DC area once again.
In a series of tweets, Walter said, “It’s official! Today was my last day on @WMALDC. It was a great (but exhausting) ride! I will miss my WMAL family terribly. It came down to going back to commuting between MD & NJ & hubby & I decided that quality of life was more important than $$.” She continued, “I had hoped they would allow us to continue remotely, but my husband said, ‘For the last year, you’ve been happy. Why torture yourself again.’ and of course he was absolutely correct.”
Walter added, “No immediate plans other than getting back to a human schedule, going to the beach across the street, reading ANYTHING non-political, going to dinner on a weeknight & mapping out the next step (for a job that is REMOTE).”
Walter joined WMAL as morning co-host (originally with Brian Wilson) in March 2017, making the sizeable leap upward from evenings at iHeartMedia News-Talk WHAS/Louisville. Her previous radio stops include two stints on WKXW (New Jersey 101.5)/Trenton, NJ and mornings on WCTC-AM/New Brunswick, NJ. Walter said she will continue to fill in for Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio and occasionally on SiriusXM. For now, her former co-host Vince Coglianese is rolling solo in morning drive.
