‘Mason & Remy’ Now Minus Mason
• It’s long been a maxim of the radio industry that jocks should never: 1) Buy a house, 2) Buy anything that can’t fit into a small U-Haul trailer, and 3) get a tattoo of your current call letters. We now join this story, already in progress…
Less than a week after getting his station’s logo tattooed on his arm (a story that made it all the way to the New York Post, btw…), Mason Schreader, half of the long-running on-air duo Mason & Remy, has exited Hubbard Radio Country 92.3 WIL-FM/St. Louis. The story was initially reported by The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and OM Tommy Mattern confirms to RAMP that co-host Remy, a.k.a. Zachary Hoesly will remain in mornings, alongside Kasey Washausen, who also does the midday show.
Mason & Remy were formally teamed up in April 2010 at then-Clear Channel Country KSD-FM (93-7 The Bull)/St. Louis, both coming from Regent Top 40 WBNQ/Bloomington, IL, where Schreader was APD/afternoons, and Remy did nights. In 2015, the guys were hired to mornings on iHeartMedia Country WEBG (Big 95.5)/Chicago via remote while retaining their KSD gig. That dual-market arrangement remained in effect until Jan. 2017, when they left KSD and moved to Chicago fulltime, where they remained until April 2018. Later that year, the guys returned to St. Louis, this time on their former rival, Hubbard’s WIL-FM.
• Schreader announced his departure in a remarkably candid social media post that read, in part, “I have a pretty high bar for what goes out into the world with my name attached to it, so I’m not the easiest person to work with.” He continued, “I know I’ve mishandled a lot of situations in my years. I know I made mistakes on my path and I own that. I know I can be a sh!tty person sometimes, but I will tell you that myself. I know who I am. I know I work with an intensity that is too much for some people. I know Remy put up with it for 11+ years & I know I’m happy he won’t be burdened by it anymore.” In closing, Schreader said, “I’m grateful to the people who supported us & I hope the best for everyone at WIL. It was an honor to be associated with those legendary call letters.”
