Pros On The Loose
• Not sure if you caught this news or not, but we recently learned that a bout of restructuring at Canada’s Bell Media resulted in the unfortunate departure of longtime company veteran “Phat” Matt Franklin, PD of Alternative CIMX (89X) and Triple A CIDR (93.9 The River)/Windsor-Detroit.
Franklin had spent virtually his entire professional radio career with CIMX — he started interning there in 1992 while still in college, working his way up to Music Director/evenings. In 2006 he crossed the hall to become PD/afternoon drive personality on The River, and in 2015 he added PD duties and afternoons on 89X.
RAMP caught up with Franklin, who remarked, “I feel very fortunate to have worked at two great stations with so many great people over the years… and I look forward to hearing about new radio opportunities that may be out there.” You heard the man — Phat Matt is now exploring his many career options and can be reached for meaningful conversations at mfranklin9@cogeco.ca.
• This one took a lot of people by surprise — after a 26-year run with Beasley Media Group in Ft. Myers, FL, Randy Sherwyn has exited as PD/morning personality at AC WJPT (Sunny 106.3).
Since ’tis the season, we should mention that Sherwyn is the creator and host of Christmas Across The Lands, billed as “The Planet’s Most-Listened-To Christmas Radio Show.” Now in its 18th year, this 12-hour holiday classic is currently heard on nearly 100 radio stations worldwide, as well as on American Forces Radio.
