Sterling James: Free Agent

• Longtime Bay Area air personality Sterling James is now an in-demand free agent, as RAMP confirms her Oct. 19 departure from Bonneville’s KBLX/San Francisco after 14 years, one of several recent layoffs inside the Bonneville building.

Ms. James originally joined KBLX in 2006 for nights/weekends/fill-ins. Within a year she was doing afternoon drive, and had been doing middays since 2008. Interestingly, from 2006-2007 (while working for KBLX), Ms. James was also doing middays at the late KNGY (Energy 92.7) and was also an in-store DJ at San Francisco’s Virgin Megastore. Prior to that she spent a decade with crosstown KLLC (Alice @ 97.3) — doing nights from 1996-2002 and middays from 2002-2006. James’ major market career started as a member of the street team at 98.9/99.1 KSOL in 1993, later as morning show producer/host and public affairs director/host. She also worked at KSFS while attending San Francisco State.

In the words of her friend (and fellow Bay Area radio icon) Celeste Perry, “Sterling epitomizes what it means to be a major market radio pro. A Bay Area native, Sterling is intelligent, funny, warm and versatile and she has always used her platform to connect with community. She is the kind of media star radio needs. Bonus points for her ‘just like buttah’ voice.” Sterling James can be reached at sterling@sterlingjames.net.
