Wanna Wake Up With The Wolf?
• Cumulus Country KPLX (99.5 The Wolf)/Dallas now has a prime morning co-host spot open, as Brian Moote announced his imminent departure from the co-pilot seat on Wake Up With The Wolf after a two-year run and reportedly plans to return to Atlanta. PD Mike Preston is now actively looking for a new co-host to plug in across from Tara Ward.
Moote and Ward were initially teamed up in March 2020 — Moote (right) is a stand-up comedian who had previously co-hosted the morning show with Edgar “Shoboy” Sotelo on former Audacy Top 40 KAMP (97.1 AMP Radio)/Los Angeles. He earlier co-hosted the syndicated The Bert Show in Atlanta and did mornings on KIRO/Seattle.
Ward (left) previously co-hosted Wake Up With The Wolf from 1998-2008. She started her career across the street on iHeartMedia Top 40 KHKS (106.1 Kiss FM) working on The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, and spent the subsequent nine years in various roles for iHeartMedia Dallas.
Preston tells RAMP that Moote will stay with the show temporarily while a search for his successor is launched. Preston is looking for someone with strong social media skills, gets the Texas vibe and an interest in Country music. At least five years commercial radio experience is preferred, and while morning show experience is a huge plus, strong personalities who understand how to do a show from the country world as well as pop & hot ac/ac encouraged to apply. Organization, collaboration and idea generation are keys to getting noticed for this position. Preston also notes the move is not associated with or related to the station’s recent musical shift to gold-recurrent based.
