57 Candles On WMSC’s Cake
• Sending our best wishes to the hardworking crew at Montclair State University’s award-winning student-run radio station, 90.3 WMSC/Montclair, NJ, which today marks its 57th year of service. It was April 17, 1967, when the WMSC held its ribbon-cutting ceremony and inaugural broadcast — a 27-hour marathon.
For this current birthday, the staff got considerably more inspired, kicking off a 168-hour live broadcast marathon! This week-long birthday celebration will feature special editions of your favorite shows, collaborative public affairs programming, and special campus activities, as the current semester comes to a close, and it all culminates this Saturday, April 20 at midnight with 48 hours of vinyl-only music to honor Record Store Day and the highly anticipated Vinylthon.
“This remarkable endeavor speaks volumes of students’ commitment to broadcast radio and their enduring desire to keep the spirit of college radio alive and thriving in our ever-evolving media landscape,” said Anabella Poland, WMSC General Manager and adviser. “Their passion not only reflects a deep appreciation for the medium but also underscores Montclair’s role as a launchpad for their future success in the media industry. With the support of exceptional staff and state-of-the-art facilities, these students embody the next generation of media professionals, poised to make their mark on the airwaves and beyond.”
