Adam Levine Leaving ‘The Voice’
• Adam Levine, one of the original coaches on NBC’s The Voice surprised a few folks today when he announced he was leaving the singing competition after 16 seasons. As reported by Entertainment Tonight, the news was initially broken by Voice host Carson Daly during Friday’s Today show, when he said, “Adam is one of the original coaches that launched the show, winning the competition three times and inspiring many of the artists that he worked so closely with. Many viewers will miss his ‘frenemy’ relationship with Blake Shelton. He will always be a cherished member of the Voice family and of course we wish him nothing but the best.”
Levine’s departure will leave Shelton as the only remaining original Voice coach. Both artists joined the show during its inaugural season in 2011, with Levine winning Season One with Javier Colon. Levine won the show again in 2013 with Tessanne Chin and also in 2015 with Jordan Smith.
As for who will be replacing the Maroon 5 frontman, Daly revealed that Gwen Stefani, who previously appeared as a Voice coach in seasons 9 and 12, would be occupying Levine’s former chair this fall. Interestingly, Stefani and Shelton have been a couple for the past few years, thanks to her earlier appearance on the show. As Daly explained, “She met her current boyfriend, Blake Shelton, through the show. Excited to have her back.”
The Voice just wrapped its 16th season earlier week with the crowning of its newest winner, Maelyn Jarmon, who was coached by John Legend in his debut Voice season. Legend is slated to return for Season 17, as is Kelly Clarkson, joining Shelton and Stefani.
