Ain’t No Party Like A Petty Party
It was recently announced that Tom Petty had been named as the 2017 MusiCares® Person of the Year. A three-time Grammy winner, Petty is being honored in recognition of his significant creative accomplishments, his career-long interest in defending artists’ rights, and the charitable work he has undertaken throughout his career. Petty’s tribute event will take place on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 — two days prior to the Grammy Awards. As is the custom for these tributes,
Late last week the initial list of performers was revealed, and it’s major — please welcome Foo Fighters, Don Henley, Norah Jones, Kings Of Leon, Randy Newman, Stevie Nicks, Lucinda Williams, Gary Clark Jr., Jeff Lynne, George Strait, Jackson Browne, Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, Elle King, Regina Spektor and The Bangles.
But wait! There’s more! Legendary producer T Bone Burnett will serve as the show’s musical director and Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers will close out the evening’s festivities! Additional performers will be announced shortly. Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year tribute — now in its 27th year — provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical, and personal need. The Petty celebration will be followed two nights later by the 59th Annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, broadcast live on CBS-TV at 8pm ET/PT. [Photo credit: Neal Preston]
