Carter Joins Republic As SVP/A&R
• Republic Records officially welcomes Mel Carter aboard as Senior Vice President of A&R. In his new role, Carter will scout, sign, and foster new talent for the Republic roster while continuing to oversee the current roster on his imprint, Hikari Ultra, under its joint venture with Republic.
Commenting on Carter’s hire, Republic EVP Rob Stevensonsaid, “Mel has proven himself to be a true disruptor. He ignited a movement with Hikari Ultra that is diverse, dangerous, and dynamic — cutting his own path in the industry. We are grateful he has decided to join our team in an expanded role.”
Carter commented, “Talking to Rob, I’ve learned so much from him. Monte and Avery Lipman offered me an amazing opportunity that was an honor to seize. Our job is to find the next big uUrban acts, develop them, and break them on a global scale. I’m excited to do that with this incredible team and leave a mark on the culture as the #1 label in Urban and across the board!”
Carter joined Republic Records as an A&R Consultant in 2018, an opportunity that granted he and his business partner and co-founder, Righteous P, a joint venture for their independent label, Hikari Ultra, thus, providing a launchpad for the rapid rise of City Morgue and Cee Kay. Before that Carter spent a decade facilitating deals throughout the industry, including signing Jovanie to Atlantic Records and making history as the label’s youngest artist ever at the time. He also has the distinction of being mentioned in Daymond John‘s best-selling book, The Power of Broke.
