Franklin Named Def Jam VP/Marketing

Lena Franklin has been promoted to Vice President of Marketing, Def Jam Recordings. The announcement of Franklin’s upgrade was made by Jeff Harleston, Interim Chairman & CEO, who said, “Lena brings a combination of savvy, sophistication and creativity to our marketing team as she continues to grow as an executive. I’m confident she will play a significant role in driving the energy, passion, and creative direction of our marketing efforts.”

Franklin officially joined Def Jam in June 2021, and immediately made her presence felt, taking the reins on projects from Alessia Cara and Kaash Paige, as well as Ludacris‘ new Netflix children’s show, Karma’s World. Prior to her arrival at Def Jam, Franklin spent five years in the Urban marketing department of Interscope Records.

“I’m thrilled to continue my career within UMG at Def Jam Recordings,” said Franklin. “Def Jam has a rich history in breaking incredible artists. I believe that marketing is a core pillar of that success story, and I can’t wait to break the next generation of stars. I’d like to thank Jeff Harleston, Top Dawg, and Manny Smith for their ongoing support.”

Franklin began her career in 2014 as a College Marketing Rep at Sony Music. She graduated from Tulane University in 2016 with dual degrees: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition & Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
