Gaga: A Movie Star Is Born
Fresh off of her headlining Coachella performance (and debut of her new single, “The Cure”) on Saturday night, Lady Gaga returns to the Coachella stage again today and tomorrow to shoot some concert scenes as part of her starring role in the upcoming remake of A Star Is Born, directed by and co-starring Bradley Cooper. That’s the word from The Hollywood Reporter, which says the official Coachella app featured a solicitation for extras “be in the audience as Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga films scenes on the actual Coachella stages. Help cheer and applaud their performances on camera… the scenes for these days will portray a Country Western music concert. All you Monsters that can attend should get decked out in your most comfortable denim & boots, throw on a Stetson (leave those pink Joanne hats at home) and come out to show your support!” Tickets for this special event are only $10 (attendees must be 18+), with all proceeds going to Gaga’s nonprofit, Born This Way Foundation.
Gaga, who will reportedly use her legal name Stefani Germanotta in the film’s credits, stars in the story of an up-and-coming starlet who struggles to break into the entertainment world with guidance from an industry veteran on the way down. Sam Elliott and Andrew Dice Clay are also set to star in the remake, which marks Cooper’s directorial debut. Gaga posted this first-look photo to Instagram with the caption, “I am so excited to star in my first movie alongside someone I’m so lucky to call my friend. I always wanted to be an actress on the big screen. The story of “A Star is Born” is so special and I’m so grateful to Bradley for making my dream come true. Can’t wait for you to meet Ally.”
The first rendering of A Star Is Born dates back to 1937, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March and directed by William Wellman. George Cukor directed the 1954 remake starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and the most recent iteration was the 1976 reboot starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Gaga’s contemporary reimagining of A Star Is Born is set for theatrical release on Sept. 28, 2018.
