IGA Joins Forces With NoName
• Interscope Geffen A&M announced a partnership with NoName Recordings, the label founded by Grammy Award-winning mixing engineer Derek “MixedByAli” Ali and his longtime business partner Dan Maynard. Under this new deal Ali and Maynard will sign and develop talent in partnership with Interscope. “Derek has contributed to some of the most important recordings of the last decade and has developed a keen eye for talent,” said Nicole Wyskoarko, EVP/Co-Head of A&R at IGA. “He and Dan are innovators in the tech space and we are big believers in the label they are building.”
NoName Recordings was launched in the fall of last year with a single from Baltimore artist Malik Moses. The first release under the new deal is the June 8 release of “Jealousy” from rapper/singer/Long Beach native Shady Blu, produced by yaboyNois, Distinkt beats & DJ Swish.
MixedByAli has mixed tracks for Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, Roddy Ricch, Mac Miller, SZA and many others. He’s been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has won three for his work on Lamar’s albums Damn., and To Pimp a Buttlerfly and for the 2019 Record of the Year “This is America” by Childish Gambino. Ali and Maynard have also built EngineEars, a music tech platform that provides tools to audio engineers to improve their workflow and build their businesses.
“Interscope has proven to be an amazing home for entrepreneurs,” said Ali. “We are looking forward to working closely with John Janick, Steve Berman, Nicole Wyskoarko, Tim Glover and the entire team as we create opportunities for NoName artists.” Tim Glover, EVP of A&R at Interscope commented, “Together, Derek and Dan form a powerful creative partnership, one which is already developing a roster of great artists. We’re looking forward to working closely to launch and nurture this new talent.”
