Lil Nas X, Olivia, BTS Dominate VMAs
• The MTV VMAs returned live last night to a packed Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Hosted by Doja Cat, who also performed, the show featured early appearances by MTV pioneers Madonna and Cyndee Lauper. The evening’s biggest winners were Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo and K-Pop supergroup BTS, all of whom took home three awards — Lil Nas X won Video Of The Year, Best Direction and Best Visual Effects for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” Enjoying a standout year, Olivia Rodrigo won “Song Of The Year,” Best New Artist and “Push Performance Of The Year” for her breakout hit, “Drivers License,” while BTS were rewarded with three trophies — “Best Group,” and “Best K-Pop” and “Song Of The Summer” for “Butter.”
Justin Bieber was named “Artist Of The Year,” and was also honored with “Best Pop” for his collaboration with Daniel Caesar & Givēon, “Peaches,” while Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak, a.k.a. Silk Sonic, took home two awards — “Best R&B” and “Best Editing” for “Leave The Door Open.” Billie Eilish was also a two-time winner — “Video For Good” for Your Power,” and “Best Latin” for “Lo Vas A Olvidar,” her project with Rosalía.
The audience was also treated to whole bunch of performances from Foo Fighters, Olivia Rodrigo, Alicia Keys ft. Swae Lee, Camila Cabello, Kacey Musgraves, Normani, Chlöe of Chloe x Halle, Ed Sheeran, Lil Nas X ft. Jack Harlow, Shawn Mendes ft. Tainy, twenty one pilots, Machine Gun Kelly ft.
