R. Kelly Back In Jail
• Just hours after R. Kelly’s emotionally charged interview with Gayle King aired Wednesday on CBS This Morning, the singer was handcuffed and taken into custody after a child support hearing did not go his way. Last month, a Cook County judge issued an order that would send Kelly to jail if he did not pay $161,663 in back child support owed to his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, by 10am Wednesday. Drea was among multiple women who alleged sexual misconduct against the singer in the recent Lifetime docu-series Surviving R. Kelly.
As reported by Variety and the Chicago Sun-Times, Kelly will remain in custody at Cook County Jail until he pays that six figures-worth of child support. Kelly faced a similar cash shortfall late last month when he was unable to raise the $100,000 required to secure his release on $1 million bail on multiple counts of sexual abuse involving four victims — three of whom were minors. He spent three nights Cook County Jail before a female fan who had met him on a Lake Michigan cruise last fall put up the $100K. No, seriously. Kelly’s next court hearing is set for Wednesday, March 13 at the Daley Center.
During the explosive interview with Gayle King that has since gone viral, an animated and emotional Kelly said, “I didn’t do this stuff… This is not me. I’m fighting for my f—ing life.” Responding to how his alleged victims described him during the Surviving R. Kelly docu-series, Kelly said, “They was describing Lucifer. I’m not Lucifer. I’m a man. I make mistakes, but I’m not a devil, and by no means am I a monster.”
