Remembering Alan Oreman

• We would be seriously remiss if we did not take a moment and share our belated condolences with the family and friends of longtime major label music promotion executive Alan Oreman, who passed away suddenly on December 8, 2024, at the age of 73 in Pasadena, CA.

Oreman was born in Baltimore, where he began his music career working retail at E.J. Korvette’s and Franklin Music. In 1974, Alan, known as “AO” to all, began his illustrious music promotion career with London Records in Atlanta. Two year later, he joined the CBS Records Atlanta Branch as the Carolinas promo rep for Columbia Records and Epic Records. He was soon promoted to Southeast Regional Album Promotion Manager for Columbia Records, and in 1987 AO was promoted to Columbia’s Director of National Rock Promotion and moved to Los Angeles.

From 1990 to 1996 Oreman was VP of Rock Promotion for Geffen Records, followed by a four-year stint as Head of Promotion for Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss’s Almo Sounds. He later went on to serve as SVP of Promotion at Gold Circle Records.

Oreman is survived by his long-time partner Nancy Richler, sons Josh and Alex, and legions of friends in and out the music business. One of those close friends is Oreman’s former Columbia Records colleague Jim McKeon (pictured, right, with AO) who tells RAMP, “A memorial and celebration of AO’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 1 from 12-3pm in Pasadena, CA. If you are interested in attending, we would love you to join us. Further venue and other details will be shared upon RSVP HERE, or by contacting Alan’s son Josh at oremanj@gmail.com or 626-318-1577.
