Remembering Jonas Cash

• Early yesterday we learned that Jonas Cash, longtime record promotion executive, probably best known as the founder of the wildly popular A.I.R. (Active Industry Research) competition that made stars out of many talented radio programmers for more than 25 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was 81 years old.

In addition to his other ventures, Cash was also the co-creator (along with Alan Smith) of Billboard‘s innovative format-specific Airplay Monitor publications in the mid-90s. [Ed. note: I was honored to have been named as the inaugural Managing Editor of Top 40 Airplay Monitor in 1995]

Cash was also the husband of his beloved Joan, and loving father of industry veteran David Cash and his wife Susan and the late Jonas F. Cash. He leaves behind three sisters, two grandchildren and other relatives.

A Graveside Service will be held at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 on Thursday, April 22 at 1:45pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jonas Cash’s name to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology. Variety has a more extensive look at Cash’s lengthy and colorful life and career.
