Remembering Margo Knesz
• RAMP has learned that Margo Knesz, a true trailblazer for women in the record promotion business, died of natural causes on Monday, May 30. She was 84 years old.
Knesz enjoyed a lengthy and successful career in the music industry, dating back to the mid-’60s when she worked for Epic Records as Manager of Promotion Services. In Nov. 1969 she segued to a newly created position at Atlantic/Atco where she was put in charge of Distributor Promotion Relations. She later rose to Director of National Secondary Promotion for Atlantic Records for five years.
In May 1978 Knesz joined RCA Records as Director, National Singles Promotion, and, after a stint as Director of National Pop Promotion for MCA Records, in early 1982 Knesz was named General Manager of Atco Records. Her other career stops include National Promotion Coordinator for Evolution Records and Manager of National Promotion for GRT.
