Rockin’ The Wheels Off Detroit
• iHeartMedia Classic Rock 106.7 WLLZ (Detroit’s Wheels)/Detroit proudly announces the release of Motor City Rocks 2023 — a vinyl album that honors the station’s — and the city’s — extensive rock legacy.
“There is no shortage of great rock bands in the Motor City,” said Doug Podell, WLLZ afternoon personality. “We released an album last year and had such a great response from our listeners and demand from record stores we thought, let’s do it again. The names on this album are legendary.”
Indeed, Motor City Rocks 2023 is a collaboration with Sound City Music Executive Producers Jason Hartless, Sr. and Jason Hartless, Jr. and includes tracks from Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), The Reefermen,HALLOWEEN, Cadillac Kidz, Adrenalin, Tino G’s Dumpster Machine, Dave Edwards & The Look, plus a new version of “Common Ground” from Rhythm Corps. The album also features a live version of Ted Nugent‘s “Queen of the Forest” recorded live at Cobo Hall on New Year’s Eve 1988.
Casey Krukowski, PD of 106.7 WLLZ, noted, “Detroit has such a rich rock n’ roll history and we’re proud to once again showcase some of the best the Motor City has to offer.”
The exclusive 500-copy limited-edition album was manufactured at Third Man Pressing in Detroit and will be available at record stores across the metro Detroit region. And it gets better — a series of showcase concerts featuring all the bands appearing on the album is scheduled for October 6 at Cadieux Café, October 7 at St. Andrews Hall and October 21 at Harpos.
