Sir Lucian Now A Hollywood Star
• Over the course of his successful music industry career, Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Group has been the recipient of many impressive accolades — an honorary doctorate from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, the Spirit of Life Award from City of Hope, the Recording Academy’s President’s Merit Award and a knighthood in 2016 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This Thursday, however, all of those previous honors will be tied for a distant second place, as Sir Lucian prepares to accept his latest award — a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame. As Variety notes, “Fittingly, the ceremony will take place in front of the historic Capitol Records building; Capitol is one of the several Universal-owned labels under Grainge’s domain.”
Universal, which was recently valued at more than $33 billion, is home to thousands of artists, ranging from Taylor Swift, Drake, U2, The Weeknd and Sam Smith to such legendary acts like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Chuck Berry and the Motown catalog, to name a few. The London-born Grainge began his music industry career at April Blackwood Music at the age of 19 and has been with UMG for nearly 35 years, steadily rising through the ranks until early 2011, when he succeeded Doug Morris as Chairman and CEO.
The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 23 at 11:30am PT in front of the Capitol Tower at 1750 N. Vine Street in Hollywood. Rana Ghadban, President/CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will emcee the festivities, and guest speakers include Shawn Mendesand Lionel Richie. The event will also be live-streamed exclusively on walkoffame.com. If you are keeping score at home, please note that Grainge’s star will be No. 2,685 on the Walk Of Fame.
